About Christine
When
starting with a coach of any type, it’s very important for that relationship to
‘click’. The best way to discover whether ‘click’ happens is to experience each
other. Come out to a Nia or
WCS class or request a Complimentary Coaching Consultation so that we can start
that experience together! In the meantime, here is a little bit about me:
I am a
GRITS (Girl Raised In The South)! South Carolina is my ‘home’ state, where we
“Army Brats” (me and my three brothers) landed in the mid-70’s due to my dad’s
assignment to
Ft.
Jackson. I grew up with sweet tea and grits, still two of my favorite things!
I’ve lived in the Northeast now since the mid-90’s, so my pace is a balance
between southern (slow) and northern (fast). As a result, my manner comes
across as calming and focused, while still energetic, which appeals to many
people. My personality is warm and caring - and from time to time you can even
hear a bit of my southern drawl!
As you’ll
see below, I’ve been able to weave my passions in life into my life’s profession
– what a gift! My experiences in life sparked an insatiable interest in people
as people – learning about them and what they want out of their life. Being
strongly interested your goals enables me to best serve you by catering an Out
of the Ordinary solution just for you!
My
Work Life
My work and
life experiences have laid a natural foundation for the varied coaching that I
do today. I moved right out of college into restaurant management, immediately
applying my undergraduate Business Administration (Management) principles into
real life. After that first work experience, I moved into department store
operations management, then into human resources. My experience in HR spans the
retail, restaurant, insurance and chemical industries in positions of
progressively greater responsibilities. Being a veracious learner, I acquired
along the way a professional certification as a Senior Professional in Human
Resources (SPHR), had the privilege of attending the Center for Creative
Leadership, and conquered a Master in Business Administration from Centenary
College. Before leaving the corporate environment to launch Break Out of the
Ordinary, I enjoyed two years as a successful sales coach.
Coaching,
as a profession, is in total alignment with my personal philosophy of relating
to people: Find out what they want and help them get it. This philosophy has
been further developed through my education in and graduation from Coach U’s
Core Essentials program.

‘Dancing
Through Life’
As a little
girl, I learned tap and ballet and was later able to apply that learning of body
movement to gymnastics and springboard diving. My dad was in the military and I
often attended dances as his companion. As a young adult, I learned social
ballroom and country dancing, both of which enabled me meet like-minded people
in the places I lived.
When I
discovered West Coast Swing in the early 90’s, it was a great challenge to me
because it isn’t like the structured, repetitive steps I found within ballroom
and country. WCS allows musical interpretation and improvisation along with fun
partnering opportunities within the basic framework of the dance. Learning the
foundation of the dance came through hard work and practice. Once I had the
solid follower foundation (and because of the shortage of leaders!), I
eventually began to lead the dance as well. This unique perspective of leading
and following brings a nice balance of instruction in my workshops for leaders
AND followers!
‘Wellness
Quest’
In the late
90’s, I became mysteriously unwell. I felt tired and lethargic all the time,
sometimes almost falling asleep in afternoon meetings at work. I could sleep
for 13 hours and still not feel awake or rested. I had pain in my joints and
pressure pain from the lightest of touches. I bumbled from doctor to doctor,
looking for something, anything, that could help me feel well again. That began
my personal wellness quest that has now reached it’s 10th year. I,
very thankfully, came across some great holistic professionals who have
contributed greatly to my wellness today. My wellness journey continues as “I’m
healing myself from Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue.” Though the journey has
been frustrating and rewarding at different times, the great thing is that I did
so much research along the way, that I find myself a walking encyclopedia of
holistic modalities and nutritional plans. This great base of knowledge equips
me well to partner with women as they begin their own personal wellness
journeys.
‘Nia’
I’ve
FINALLY found a fitness regimen that works for people like me with chronic
conditions: Nia. I discovered Nia through many “God winks” (ask me about it!)
that led me to become a Certified Nia White Belt Instructor. Nia is more than a
fitness craze – it’s a self-healing tool. Nia is non-impact, gentle-movement
fitness that is ideal for everybody – and it’s FUN! Those of you who have CFS/FM,
or other chronic conditions, might experience a delayed impact from exercise
that feels as if you hit a brick wall. Sound familiar? I was wary to try Nia
for that very reason. Yet all the research shows that moderate, consistent
exercise is essential for us. To my amazement, after my very first Nia class, I
felt no ill effects!
Nia has
been around for 25 years yet not many people have heard of it. It combines
martial arts, dance arts and healing arts that links your mind, body, spirit and
emotions with what you’re doing. As a result, people find fitness results with
Nia that traditional exercise doesn’t bring them. Now that I’m certified to
teach Nia, I want everyone to know about it and try it! See
my Nia page for
more details about Nia, including my current class schedule in Rockaway, NJ.
