West Coast Swing
What I
bring to others within my private lessons and workshops is the ability to feel
good about themselves and bring joy to their own dancing, which then positively
impacts their partners. Most workshops give dancers set moves and syncopations,
but very little information on how to improve their dance skills.
What is Out
of the Ordinary about my information is that dancers instead learn the elements
of dance, within the framework of west coast swing, and acquire dance skill
‘pieces’ they can layer in at any time, in any dance, with any partner.
When
dancers receive this type of information from me, they walk away with specific
dance skills that improve what they do and how they look on the dance floor –
and they ultimately feel better about themselves and have more fun with their
partners and their own dancing!

What is West
Coast Swing?
West Coast
Swing is just one of many forms of swing dancing performed in the world. It
evolved from the jitterbug and lindy hop: As those partner dances moved west
across the
United States
and landed on the west coast, the music there was more bluesy and the clubs more
small and narrow. As a result, the dance morphed into a ‘slotted’ linear form
of swing dance performed to slower blues/R&B type music. Search “West Coast
Swing” on YouTube and you’ll find many live examples – here are some of my
favorites:
